Social work programs across the country value and respect diversity and inclusiveness, are committed to a learning environment of cultural humility, and exist to prepare social workers to advance equity and justice. As such, the Council on Social Work Education takes issue with the president’s recent executive order.

Voting determines who sets policies regarding racial, social, and economic justice at the city, state, and federal levels. On September 29, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the National Social Work Voter Mobilization Campaign will co-host a free Web event. Programs will highlight their activities that help drive voter engagement, and speakers will highlight free resources that make it easy for students and faculty members to organize voter registration programs.

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, we have lauded and supported essential workers. Social workers were deemed essential early on in this crisis and will continue to play a crucial role in helping students, families, and school communities navigate school disruptions associated with the pandemic. COVID-19 school disruptions are particularly problematic for students who, due to a variety of factors, may be more vulnerable to learning loss. Read more.

Voting is a human right that provides individuals equal voice, self-determination, power in the political system, and meaningful participation in the decision-making process. CSWE and members of the Voting Is Social Work campaign bust several myths that stand in the way of truly effective voter registration efforts.

CSWE is excited to announce the grantees for the fifth cycle of the Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work Education grant program. These projects will prepare future social workers and researchers to practice within an increasingly interdependent and interconnected global community.

CSWE has long supported efforts to help Americans exercise their right to vote in elections. With the 2020 presidential election just 10 weeks away, CSWE supports the Voting Is Social Work campaign and its resources, which can help social workers, students, and educators register as many people as possible to vote in this year’s and future elections.

“Your vote is precious. Almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have to create a more perfect union,” said the late civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis in 2012. On November 3, just 10 weeks from now, Americans can exercise one of their most sacred rights: voting. On Election Day, millions of people, including immigrants who have fought hard for citizenship and the precious right to vote, will go to the polls. Read more

We have discussed a variety of topics affecting the social work profession during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is meaningful and enriching – but exhausting - work. It’s no surprise that self-care remains one of the most popular conversations among social workers across the globe.

As of July 1, 2020, institutions receiving federal financial aid are required to disclose information about degree programs and students’ eligibility for professional licensure. ASWB has resources to help CSWE members comply with these regulations.

​CSWE joined with the American Council on Education and dozens of education associations in advocating for increased funding for colleges from congressional leaders. As students, faculty, and colleges prepare for a new semester during the coronavirus pandemic, CSWE urged for financial support from lawmakers in two letters on Aug. 6, 2020.
