Toronto Celebrates WorldPride

This year’s WorldPride will be held June 20-29 in Toronto, Canada, the first WorldPride celebration ever held in North America, and the fourth festival of its kind in the world. The international event’s mission is to hold a celebration incorporating activism, education, and the history and culture of global lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, two-spirited, and allied communities; it will also serve to highlight Canada’s continued progress in human rights and Toronto’s diversity. Shelley Craig, a CSWE Council on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression member and University of Toronto Faculty is co-chairing WorldPride in Toronto.

Programming highlights for the 10-day event includes the Opening Ceremony (June 20), the WorldPride Human Rights Conference (June 25-27), the IGM Human Rights Reception (June 26), and the Trans March (June 27). The celebration ends with the WorldPride Parade on June 29.
