Council on Publications

The Council on Publications (COP) is the force behind the scenes that makes CSWE Press a reality. It is one of three councils in the Commission on Membership and Professional Development. The COP establishes policies for CSWE Press and the Journal of Social Work Education and serves as an editorial board in acquiring publications ideas and assessing the viability of publication proposals. COP’s mission is to develop and implement policy, procedures, and practices that advance the creation and dissemination of knowledge and resources that further excellence in social work professional education. To that end, CSWE Press publishes texts primarily targeted at current and future educators.

For example, in March 2017 CSWE Press published Practicing as a Social Work Educator in International Collaboration (Butterfield & Cohen). CSWE Press also distributes the New York University Relational Social Work video series. The most recent DVD is It Takes a Team: Integrating Behavioral Health Into Primary Care Settings.

The COP has accepted several manuscripts for publication in 2018, including Teaching Social Work With Digital Technology (Hitchcock, Sage, & Smyth), A Guide for Interprofessional Collaboration (Iachini, Bronstein, & Mellin), Teaching Group Work Content in Social Work Education (Steinberg), and Activating a Teaching–Learning Philosophy: A Practical Guide for Educators (Grise-Owens, Miller, & Owens).

2017 Health Professions Week

During Health Professions Week (HPW) CSWE recruited local social work students and staff members to chat virtually with more than 50 high school and college students about social work and social work careers. Volunteers also helped create “A Day in the Life” videos, published on CSWE’s YouTube channel and made available to help the 6,000+ HPW participants learn about social work.
