Learning Collaborative for Adolescent Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
NORC at the University of Chicago was awarded $2 million from the Conrad Hilton Foundation to fund the integration of adolescent substance abuse screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) into existing social work and nursing curriculum. They have partnered with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the Center for Clinical Social Work, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to engage social work and nursing programs in a learning collaborative dedicated to adolescent SBIRT. Participants in the learning collaborative will have access to free resources, materials, and will be eligible to apply for an upcoming grant opportunity. Over the course of this project, an interactive simulation to aid students in learning and practicing SBIRT and a suite of curriculum support materials for faculty will be developed.
NORC will be offering grants of up to $10,000 to 30 schools of social work to support the implementation and evaluation of the simulation tool and the suite of curriculum support materials. Interested schools must join the learning collaborative to be eligible to respond to the request for application, which will be released by NORC later this spring. For more information about the project, the upcoming grant opportunity, and to sign up for the learning collaborative, visit the NORC’s Hilton Adolescent SBIRT webpage or the CSWE Adolescent SBIRT webpage.
