Stempel’s School of Social Work to Participate in Opioid Learning Collaborative
The Florida International University’s School of Social Work, part of the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work, has been selected from among more than 100 universities nationwide to participate in The National Council for Behavioral Health’s learning collaborative on the opioid epidemic. Ten universities throughout the country were selected to participate in the project. The 20-month learning collaborative will begin by supporting each university as it refines or expands current course work related to addiction. Learn more here.

Register for the 2020 Spring IPEC Institute
Registration for the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Spring Institute is now open! The institute, “Building a Framework for IPE for Collaborative Practice,” will be held May 19–21, 2020, in Washington, DC. The institute will provide participants the opportunity to acquire and use knowledge and skills to further advance their existing institutional interprofessional education and collaborative practice program. Call for Applications for the 2020–2021 Health and Aging Policy Fellowship
The Health and Aging Policy Fellows Program aims to create a cadre of leaders to serve as change agents in health and aging policy to ultimately improve the health care of older adults. Candidates with a strong commitment to health and aging issues, leadership potential, and interest in aging-relevant policy work are invited to join the next class of Health and Aging Policy Fellows (2020–2021). Training LEADers to Accelerate Global Mental Health Disparities Research Program
This intensive summer program provides trainees from underrepresented groups with hands-on experiences to lead multidisciplinary collaborative research teams focused on mental health disparities research in low-resource communities. Benefits of the program include a monthly stipend, free travel, and individualized coaching. Applications will be accepted through January 1, 2020 (extended from original December 1 deadline). NYU’s Guide to Navigating Holiday Loneliness
Isolation and loneliness are distinct risks for older adults, such as those who have lost a spouse. But they loom large for younger people, too. NYU School of Social Work professor Michelle Munson and her colleagues suggest that Americans, especially youths with limited support networks in this age of online social substitutes, may be suffering from isolation more than ever before. Munson is one of four co-leads addressing this through a collective effort called “Eradicating Social Isolation,” which is part of the Grand Challenges for Social Work. Learn more here.
