ALEXANDRIA, VA—The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) became certified as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program.

As an ACE provider, CSWE will be able to offer more than 600 continuing education units (CEUs) at its 54th Annual Program Meeting (APM), which will be held October 30–November 2, 2008 in Philadelphia. CSWE’s ACE status affords the more than 3,000 social work educators, students, and practitioners who attend APM a way to earn up to 18 CEU’s at one conference! Presenters can also expect an even higher turn out if their session is eligible for CEU credit.

“We are pleased to provide this opportunity for professional development,” said CSWE Executive Director Julia M. Watkins. “It allows CSWE to extend our focus on social work education beyond the bachelor’s or master’s degree.”

Aside from its broader educational programming objectives, expanding its CEU offerings creates new avenues to by which we can offer eLearning. The ACE certification facilitates the development of Webinars, podcasts, and other cutting-edge learning formats in the social work education field.

APM Attendees choosing to take advantage of CSWE’s CEU programming will need to pay a nominal administration fee. All program participants will be given a CEU Passport to record their attendance and will be issued a CEU certificate within 30 days of the conference’s completion. Program participants are encouraged to check with your state for specifics prior to attending the APM, as final authority for approving any continuing education activity rests with the state where participants are licensed.

The Council on Social Work Education is a nonprofit national association representing more than 3,000 individual members as well as graduate and undergraduate programs of professional social work education. Founded in 1952, this partnership of educational and professional institutions, social welfare agencies, and private citizens is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in the U.S.
