53rd Annual Program Meeting With Lead Plenary Speaker Stedman Graham, new Track Structure, and additional session
October 23, 2007 – SAN FRANCISCO, CA––The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) will hold its 53rd Annual Program Meeting (APM), Preparing the Next Generation of Educators, for more than 3,000 social work educators, administrators, practitioners, and students at the Hilton San Francisco from Saturday, October 27–Tuesday, October 30.
Attendees will have access to hundreds of educational sessions in 38 newly-developed topic areas or “Tracks”, 230 sessions of which are eligible for CEU credit thanks to the California Chapter of NASW. New York Times best-seller Stedman Graham will also present how social work educators can use the methodology in his latest book, Diversity: Leaders Not Labels: A New Plan for the 21st Century, to fulfill their own professional goals. Graham will discuss strengthening personal leadership and transcending race and gender through self examination and also sign limited copies of his book at the CSWE Press Bookstore on Sunday, October 28 10:30 am–11:00 am.
CSWE's 2007 APM will offer social work educators a more streamlined process to share their viewpoints and work and create new opportunities for their professional development,” said Julia M. Watkins, executive director of CSWE. “Both are important steps in advancing the profession and preparing future generations of future social work educators and practitioners.”
CSWE will also have three other top-notch speakers at its 2007 APM. Civic engagement leader Marc Freedman will kick off the Gero-Ed Track on Sunday, October 28. The Track replaces the previous NGSWC/Gero-Ed Forum to better integrate gerontology into the social work education. Jim Ife, former president of Amnesty International Australia, will present the first Hokenstad International Lecture on Monday, October 29, an APM lecture series established thanks to “Terry” Hokenstad’s generosity that will focus international social work education topics. Salome Raheim has been chosen as the 2007 Carl A. Scott lecturer for her outstanding commitment to equity and justice in social work education and practice to give a presentation on Tuesday, October 31 for this year’s Carl A. Scott Lecture, the founder and former director of CSWE’s Minority Fellowship Program.
