Dear Colleagues:
Representatives from your school or organization are invited to participate on a national task force being convened to develop specialized practice competencies and curricular resources for licensing and regulation.
We specifically invite faculty members and practice experts from social work programs that have interest in and are supportive of licensing and regulation for social work education and practice, particularly faculty members with licensing and regulation board experience and those who teach licensing and regulation content in their social work courses at the baccalaureate and master’s level. The
Curricular Guide for Licensing and Regulation will be part of the 2015 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards Curricular Guide Resource Series, which will serve as a national resource for social work programs and will be disseminated to all CSWE accredited programs. This curricular guide is sponsored by the Association of Social Work Boards, and the NASW Insurance Company, RRG, in collaboration with CSWE. We are fortunate that these organizations have provided the funding to create this guide.
We hope to have as many programs as possible participate on the task force to reflect the depth and breadth of social work licensing and regulation content being taught. Task force members will be asked to participate in
- an orientation webinar (60–90 minutes) in January 2018;
- one of nine task force competency groups established to define the social work competencies for licensing and regulation;
- monthly calls in winter and spring 2018 to work on competency descriptions and curricular resources;
- a face-to-face meeting of task force members at CSWE in Alexandria, VA, on April 27–28; and
- virtual meetings to finalize competencies and curricular resources through August 2018.
- Participants will be responsible for their own travel, hotel, and meals for the face-to-face meeting. For those without travel funds, remote participation may be possible.

As a member of the task force, your program’s representative will share expertise with licensing and regulation colleagues and garner new insights to enrich your program’s curriculum. Participants’ names and institutions will be listed in the published guide. Please review the first booklet in the series, Specialized Practice Curricular Guide for Gero Social Work Practice, which will serve as an example for the licensing and curricular guide.
Please forward this information to any faculty members or practice experts in your program to apply for this
national task force. We will select only one faculty member and/or practice expert to represent each program or organization in order to have the broadest possible participation on the task force. The applications period closes
November 27, 2017; applicants will be notified in December regarding their selection for the task force.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
