Environmental Justice Task Force

5/31/2019

Dear Colleagues:

CSWE members are invited to participate in a national task force that will develop competencies and curricular resources on environmental justice. We specifically invite social work education faculty members and practice experts who teach environmental studies content in their social work courses at the baccalaureate  or master’s level. The Curricular Guide for Environmental Justice, part of the 2015 EPAS Curricular Guide Resource Series, will serve as a national resource for social work programs and will be disseminated to all CSWE accredited programs. This curricular guide is sponsored by CSWE and the CSWE Center for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice.

Task force members will be asked to participate in the following:

  • An orientation webinar (60–90 minutes) in September 2019
  • One of nine task force competency groups established to define the social work competencies for the advancement of environmental justice
  • Monthly calls/webinars to work on competency descriptions and curricular resources
  • A face-to-face meeting of task force members November 15–16 or November 22–23 at CSWE in Alexandria, VA
  • Virtual meetings to finalize competencies and curricular resources through August 2020

Participants will be responsible for their own travel, hotel, and meals for the face-to-face meeting. For those without travel funds, remote participation may be possible.

As a member of the task force, your program’s representative will share expertise with colleagues who are committed to the advancement of environmental justice and garner new insights to enrich your program’s curriculum. Participants’ names and institutions will be listed in the published curricular guide.

Due to response and capacity, we have closed the task force for this guide. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
