Gero-Ed Track Kick-Off

Esteemed Researcher and Educator on LGBT Families

Fredriksen-Goldsen, a renowned expert in lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT) issues and older adults, will commence the 2010 APM Gero-Ed Track with the theme Enhancing and Sustaining Innovative Services for LGBT Elders. By examining social work’s role in enhancing services for LGBT elders, our profession can develop innovative avenues for sustaining these services.
 
As associate professor and director of the Institute for Multigenerational Health at the School of Social Work at the University of Washington, Fredriksen-Goldsen has conducted research and published extensively on aging and caregiving, with an emphasis on care in marginalized communities. Currently, as the principal investigator of Caregiving and Aging with Pride, she is leading the first national study on health disparities of LGBT elders and their caregivers. Fredriksen-Goldsen is the author of three books and more than 50 peer reviewed articles, and has received several awards for advancing professional social work research and education.

The Gero-Ed Kick-Off event is an annual opportunity for anyone to become more familiar with cutting-edge gerontological social work concepts.
