Mental Health Research Teaching Module
This teaching module on Mental Health Research, with teaching notes, offers assigned readings related to consent and refusal in dementia research, and legal and/or ethical issues involving research conducted with homebound older adults. Class discussion questions cover topics of economic disparity and implications for the aging process, the legal and ethical challenges of doing research with older adults, theories of successful aging, adequate cognitive function, and potential birth cohort effects. Pretests and posttests for knowledge of mental health research issues and challenges are offered.
Competencies Addressed in This Module:
- The understanding of the way one's own values and biases regarding aging will impact professional practice and ethical work with older clients and their families; and affect the provision of aging, health, and mental health services.
