Preconference FDI at the CSWE 2014 APM

Join the CSWE Gero-Ed Center and the National Resource Center for Participant-Directed Services at Boston College Graduate School at the preconference Faculty Development Institute (FDI), Preparing Social Workers with Person-Centered and Participant-Directed Competencies, by registering for this FDI that will be held at the 2014 APM, Thursday, October 23, 1:30–4:30 pm. This FDI will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and resources to prepare your generalist-level students for the rapid competency-based changes occurring within the Aging and Disability Network and within community-based long-term services and supports funded by the Affordable Care Act; space is limited, so register soon!

A recording of the webinar The ACA and Care Transitions: Implications for Social Work, which took place on July 16, 2014, is now available! Paul Gould of Binghamton University and Walter Rosenberg of Rush University Medical Center discussed care transition interventions that use social workers, directions for social work practice, and implications for social work education created by new payment structures and business models.

2014 Student Travel Scholarship Awardees

The Gero-Ed Center is pleased to announce the 2014 awardees of the Ashley-Brooks Danso Memorial Fund Student Travel Scholarships! Charlie Bouverette (Ferris State University), Kathryn Fox (University of Albany), and Olaide Wolfe (University of Alaska, Anchorage) will receive $500 to assist with travel expenses and a complimentary registration to attend the 2014 CSWE Annual Program Meeting in Tampa, FL; awardees will be recognized at the Gero-Ed Track Kick-Off Panel on October 24, 2014, 11:00 am–12:30 pm.

HPPAE-VHA Partnership Grows

The Gero-Ed Center’s HPPAE-VHA partnership is expanding to three VA Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) sites and one VA hospital in fall 2014! The new partners include the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC and GRECC sites in Durham, NC; Pittsburgh, PA; and Nashville, TN.
