Message From the Director

Dear MFP Community,

As the calendar turns to October, the Minority Fellowship Program enters its 45th year! Our accomplishments since 1974 are attributable to Carl Scott’s vision and leadership. Here are a few of the ways that Carl Scott’s legacy continues today:

  • CSWE established the Carl A. Scott Memorial Lecture to continue Scott’s legacy of equity and social justice in social work. The MFP is proud that Dr. Llewellyn Cornelius (MFP Doctoral ’88) will deliver this year’s lecture on Friday, October 25.
  • The MFP started by supporting social work doctoral students in their pursuit of leadership positions in mental health teaching, research, and practice. During this year’s APM we will deliver our training events for the current cohort of 25 doctoral fellows. Please join us at our reception on Friday, October 25 to meet them! Carl A. Scott
  • Since 2014 the MFP has supported 240 master’s fellows. With additional funding for 2019–2020 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, we welcome our largest cohort of 44 master’s fellows! You will learn more about them in future editions of MFP Connect.

We are all products of Carl Scott’s leadership more than four decades ago. We will commemorate the 45th anniversary in many ways throughout this fall and into 2020. Look for many opportunities to connect with each other!

Duy Nguyen, PhD
MFP Director
