Social Work Practice With Groups Teaching Module
This mini-module includes instructions for a lecture on group work with elders, including communication patterns, cohort issues, use of life review, re-motivation, group membership, mental health concerns with caregivers, suicide assessment, mental illness effects on aging, intersection of services, plus depression and older adults. Additionally, there are classroom exercises with case examples, discussion questions, and assigned reading related to support, educational, coping skills, and problem-solving components of caregiving.
Competencies Addressed in This Module:
- Utilization of group interventions with older adults and their families (e.g., bereavement groups, reminiscence groups).
- Assisting caregivers to reduce their stress levels and maintain their own mental and physical health.
