Homeless Children and Youth: Enhancing Services
Twenty-five years ago this month, President Ronald Reagan signed into law the McKinney Act, which facilitates educational services to homeless children and youth. A new report by the National Center on Family Homelessness, Evaluating Programs: Strategies and Tools for Providers Serving Homeless Families, provides guidance on crucial elements in the program assessment process via lessons learned in one initiative.
Of related interest, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness recently announced a new framework for ending youth homelessness.
LGBTQ Youth in Foster Care: New Recommendations
The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) and other child welfare advocates offer guidance to child welfare agencies to better serve LGBTQ children in the child welfare system. Their recommendations may be found in the new "Recommended Practices to Promote the Safety and Well-Being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth and Youth at Risk of or Living with HIV in Child Welfare Settings."
Workshop Report Features Research on Child Maltreatment
During a January 2012 workshop, leading experts studying child maltreatment reviewed research accomplishments, identified gaps that remain in knowledge, and considered potential research priorities.
