2017 APM Theme
The 2017 APM Theme is "Educating for the Social Work Grand Challenges," reflecting a call to action for all of us to work together to tackle our nation’s toughest social problems. This theme focuses on ways for social work educators to equip undergraduate and graduate students to develop and sustain innovative solutions to the 12 societal issues identified in the grand challenges.
The Grand Challenges for Social Work is a groundbreaking initiative to champion social progress powered by science.
Session Types
The majority of the conference program consists of competitively selected presentations in a variety of educational formats. Presentations are selected through a blind peer-review process from all proposals submitted to the 2017 APM Call for Proposals.
Competitive papers are presented in one of four formats:
- Interactive Poster (60 minutes)—encourages lively discussion between the presenter and viewers of the material and often focuses on a study, survey, or similar research method and its outcomes
- Interactive Workshop (60 minutes; CE credits available)—emphasizes dynamic instructor–participant dialogue in achieving the session’s learning objectives
- Oral Presentation (60 minutes)—includes two 20-minute presentations, each followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer period
- Panel (60 minutes; CE credits available)—features two to four presenters on a particular subject
