Using Research to Change the World (Or At Least A Neighborhood)
Consistent with the legacy of Carl A. Scott, the Comm-Univer-City of Pittsburgh is an is an integrated program of applied research, teaching, and service designed to investigate and ameliorate social problems that disproportionately impact economically disadvantaged children, families, and communities. This talk will provide concrete examples and highlight specific ways in which social work practitioners, scholars and students can work together to design, implement and evaluate interventions that improve the lives of those that we serve.
Biography Sketch
John M. Wallace, Jr., Ph.D., holds the Philip Hallen Chair in Community Health and Social Justice at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Wallace is a professor at Pitt’s School of Social Work, with secondary appointments in the Katz Graduate School of Business and in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences (sociology). Dr. Wallace is also the senior pastor of Bible Center Church.
His teaching, research and practice all use community-based participatory approaches to investigate and ameliorate social problems that disproportionately impact economically disadvantaged children, families, and communities. His research has been published in numerous professional journals, books and monographs.
