Welcome from the Director

Nguyen_headshot-small.jpgDear Fellows and Alumni:

It is my pleasure to introduce you to MFP Connect: Linking past and present fellows for future impact!  MFP Connect is a new monthly newsletter that replaces the weekly e-mails you previously received from MFP.

Since 1974, MFP has supported morethan 800 doctoral and master’s fellows through multiple grants from NIMH and SAMHSA.  Our new 5-year SAMHSA grant brings together the doctoral and master’s fellowships under one umbrella and the opportunity to integrate our resources.  We believe that creating links between past and present fellows will serve as a catalyst for future impact.

We envision that MFP Connect will

1) link CSWE MFP Fellows and Alumni with opportunities for collaboration, consultation, and mentoring;

2) inform by highlighting resources to advance your practice and research; and

3) celebrate your achievements.

The MFP staff will need your help to provide content for MFP Connect.  Please continue to e-mail your accomplishments, new projects, and resources that can help doctoral or master’s fellows to mfpy@cswe.org.  We are excited for this next chapter in  MFP’s history and are thrilled to embark on it with you.

Duy Nguyen, PhD
MFP Director

CSWE Resources

Explore Social Work on the CSWE Website
CSWE’s new student website is designed to help individuals—in high school or changing careers— understand the field of social work and take the first steps in pursuing social work education. Discover what social workers do, prepare for a social work degree regardless of experience or background, get a head start with helpful tips on how to apply and pay for school, and learn about other resources and initiatives to help educate your community about social work.

2017 Annual Statistics on Social Work Education
The 2017 Annual Statistics on Social Work Education in the United States report is available now. This report includes the most current and comprehensive collection of information related to social work education. The summary provides a broad picture of social work program offerings, students, and faculty members, including enrollment numbers, demographics, student loan debt, and salary information. The data can be used to inform policy decisions, identify issues and trends, and assist in social work education research.

State of Field Education Survey Report
state of field education surveyCSWE is pleased to announce the release of the State of Field Education Survey: A Survey of Directors of Field Education on Administrative Models, Staffing, and Resources. The 2015 survey of field directors was an initiative of the CSWE Council on Field Education under the leadership of past chairs, Jo Ann McFall and Rebecca Brigham.

An executive summary of the 2015 survey provided a broad overview of the findings. This second report provides additional information related to the field director/coordinator experience and how it relates to field education. The report helps answer many critical questions about how our field education programs are organized, who is leading them, and various resources needed.

CSWE thanks all the field directors and coordinators who took time to participate in the survey and those who served on the survey work group.

Health Professions Week

For the third consecutive year, CSWE will participate in Health Professions Week (HPW), a FREE week-long series of interactive events for high school and college students interested in the health professions. Download and print the promotional flyer to distribute to your networks or display on community boards. The virtual events will be held November 5–9; registration is free but required.
