2013 Social Work Research Tour in Cuba

4/4/2013

For a second consecutive year, a week long research tour to Havana, Cuba, was organized by Marazul Charters in collaboration with the CSWE Global Commission, Council on Global Learning Research and Practice, and the Katherine A. Kendall Institute. A group of 23 CSWE members traveled to Havana in June. Led by professor emeritus David Strug from Yeshiva University, the group studied the education, health, and social welfare systems in Cuba. Participants met with academic researchers, professors, social workers, and government officials to get their perspectives on Cuban social work. The CSWE delegation kept a schedule similar to the 2012 trip with visits to community organizations, arts projects, and health clinics.  All participants found the study tour to be both personally and professionally enriching.
